(The Villages, FL) This month, The Villages® Regional Hospital, part of Central Florida Health, will celebrate National Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 13 through 19). Included in the celebration is the selection of the 2016 Patient Safety Champion – an employee who has served as an advocate, role model, educator or leader for improving patient safety.
After being nominated by his peers, Mark Berard, PhamD was selected as the 2016 Patient Safety Champion.
Mark Berard, PharmD is a Clinical Pharmacist at The Villages® Regional Hospital. His initiative, leadership and teaching ability have improved medication safety for hospital patients.
“Mark was the key project leader for the implementation of our new Baxter Sigma Spectrum smart pumps to help prevent medication administration errors,” says Michele Michaels, Patient Safety Coordinator at The Villages® Regional Hospital.
Mark actively trained all staff pharmacists and nurses on the use of the new pumps and was on site to lead the project’s implementation.
In addition to the selection of the Patient Safety Champion, the hospital will have information displayed the week of March 13 through 19 to educate and encourage team members and patients to actively partner together for safe care.
