Central Florida Health Cancer Programs Receive Byers Oncology Award

(The Villages, FL) Central Florida Health has announced that The Villages® Regional Hospital and Leesburg Regional Medical Center have been awarded the Jean Byers Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration from the Florida Cancer Data System for 2015. This award acknowledges the quality, timeliness and completeness in the way cancer data is reported to the statewide cancer registry.

“We are honored to be among the select few institutions in the region chosen to receive the 2015 Jean Byers Award. It recognizes our ongoing commitment to a healthy community by accurately tracking the health of our cancer patients,” said Elizabeth Jernigan, Cancer Program Director at Central Florida Health. “Our cancer registry staff Carol Hutchison, Tammy Francis and other members are responsible for this achievement and deserve to be recognized.”

The award is given in honor of Jean Anne Byers, who passed away in 1996 following a long career dedicated to promoting oncology research and education in Florida.

The Cancer Programs at The Villages® Regional Hospital and Leesburg Regional Medical Center are accredited by the Commission on Cancer, which indicates a commitment to meeting their high quality standards. Our partnerships with other facilities and organizations enable us to offer a full spectrum of cancer services and ensure a seamless cancer diagnosis and treatment program for cancer patients.
